Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs fell to the Alaska Aces, 3-1, Monday evening in front of 3,268 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Reign goaltender Jeff Zatkoff stopped 30 of the 33 shots faced in the match.

The Reign (10-7-1-1, 22 points) took on the Aces (13-5-0-1, 27 points) in the second game of a back-to-back series at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign notched the first goal of the evening at 6:09 in the first period off a shot from defenseman Shawn Germain. Germain fired the puck past Aces goaltender Chris Holt, registering his first goal of the season. Right wing Mike Howe picked up the assist on the goal, his fourth of the season, to help push the Reign ahead 1-0.

Nine minutes into the second period, Alaska forward Jordan Foreman found the net on a power play goal pulling the Aces even with the Reign at one. The Aces took the lead at the 16:45 mark with defenseman Bryan Miller notching the Aces second power play goal of the evening to put Alaska ahead going into the third, 2-1.

Aces left wing Lance Galbraith put Alaska up by two when he netted a power play goal six minutes into the third period, making the score 3-1. Reign left wing Todd Jackson attempted to bring the Reign within one at the 18:02 mark. Jackson was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked going to the Aces net, but was stopped short by Ace's netminder Chris Holt. Jackson's penalty shot marked two consecutive penalty shots for the Reign in as many games.

In the final 19 seconds of the match, the clubs heated up the ice as Reign right wing John Rheault and Aces forward Jordan Foreman dropped the gloves, ending with Rheault taking down Foreman at the Reign blue line. Twelve seconds later Reign center Dusty Collins and Aces defenseman Mike Gauthier took their turn, with Dusty taking down Gauthier in the corner to the right of Aces goaltender Holt.

The Reign took 11 shots on the attack in the third period, but were unable to come away with the win, falling to the Alaska Aces with a final score Reign 1, Alaska 3.
