Nastiuk Reassigned to Gwinnett from Providence

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that netminder Kevin Nastiuk has been reassigned to the Gladiators from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Nastiuk appeared in one game with Providence making 7 saves on eight shots in a relief in a 5-1 loss against Springfield. In 8 games this season with the Gladiators, Nastiuk has posted a 4-2-2 record while recording a 3.04 goals against average and a .886 save percentage.

With the Gladiators 4-3 overtime win over Dayton on November 19th, the netminder is currently just 6 wins shy of 50 in his professional career. He has spent time with the Las Vegas Wranglers, Florida Everblades and in the American Hockey League with the Lowell Lock Monsters over the past three seasons.

Nastiuk was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 4th round, #126 overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League with the Medicine Hat Tigers from 2001-02 to 2004-05 before turing professional in the 2005-06 season.

The Gladiators next take the ice on the road Tuesday, December 2nd, at 7:05 p.m. against the South Carolina Stingrays.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier ‘AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
