
Checkers Continue Community Outreach In December

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers have been busy on the ice this season but in December, the team will be just as busy off the ice. Players, coaches and front office staff will make their presence felt in the Charlotte community during the entire month. Some of the events during December are as follows:
Dec. 6: Checkers mascot, Chubby will appear at Lake Wylie Elementary to interact and greet children from 11 a.m. till noon.
Dec. 11: Chubby will continue to make the rounds around the city when he appears at the Alexander Youth Network's Annual Tree Lighting event from 6 p.m. till 7 p.m.
Dec. 13: Chubby will appear at the Charlotte Thunder Road Marathon from 8:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. to meet and greet everyone in attendance.
Dec. 15: Checkers players will appear at Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital from 2 p.m. till 3 p.m. to deliver teddy bears that were donated at the Checkers annual Teddy Bear Toss game on November 30th.
Dec. 16: Checkers head coach and general manager, Derek Wilkinson, will appear at Wild Wing Café on South Tryon and I-485 for "Coaches Corner." This event will take place from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. Fans are invited to ask coach Wilkinson questions in an open microphone format.
Dec. 20: Checkers players to take on the Extreme Ice Mites players in a friendly and fun hockey game at WBT's Holiday on Ice rink in downtown Charlotte. The game is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and last until noon.
Dec. 29: The Checkers players and CheckMates to appear at WBT's Holiday on Ice to sign autographs and interact with fans from 2 p.m. till 7 p.m.
Dec. 30: Chubby to appear at Athletics United for Youth HS Shoot Out from noon till 1 p.m. Chubby will help cheer on local teams participating in the event.
The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next Checkers home game will take place on Dec. 4th against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7 p.m. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are entering their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396.
