Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (31-12-2-3), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, beat the clock and beat the Las Vegas Wranglers (11-29-4-2) 3-2 in overtime before a crowd of 8,876 on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
At 4:34 the Wranglers got the puck past Jussi Olkinuora as it narrowly squeaked under the goalie's pads for the first of the game; Chad Nehring earned the power-play goal.
Chris Crane tied it up 1-1 at 7:42 of the second period, knocking in a rebound from Adrian Van de Mosselaer's shot on goal. Travis Fullerton couldn't get back into position quick enough allowing Crane's deflection to get through stickside. Nehring scored another power-play goal at 15:10 while the Wranglers were on a two-man advantage. He fired a quick wrist shot into the open side of the net catching Olkinuora off guard.
In the third, Brett Beebe scored at 9:37 to tie the game 2-2. He charged the net and right after the puck crossed the line, the net was knocked off its moorings calling for a review of the goal. The goal stood and Crane earned his second point with the assist, while Sacha Guimond was credited with the secondary helper.
Regulation ended still knotted 2-2 leading way to the Reign's 17th overtime of the season. After the Reign led the shots in the overtime frame, Matt White got a breakaway chance and flew into the Wranglers zone. With an impossibly wide shot from the goal line, the puck found its way past Fullerton to win the game for Ontario with just 7.2 seconds left on the clock.
Olkinuora earned the win with 21 saves; Fullerton suffered the overtime loss with 35 saves.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Matt White
2. ONT - Chris Crane
