Solar Bears Battle to 2-1 Victory over Stingrays

Orlando, FL - D Blake Kessel rang a shot off the crossbar and into the net with 1:30 remaining in the game to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the Solar Bears to a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays at the Amway Center on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Stingrays broke through for for the game's opening goal. F Peter Boyd moved the puck through the neutral zone and fed a pass to F Scott Campbell on the left wing. Campbell snapped a shot from the top of the left circle into the top right corner at 2:14 to give South Carolina the lead. Orlando answered back 2:21 later during 4-on-4 action, as F Mickey Lang grabbed a loose puck, skated into the left circle and slipped the puck into the short side of the net to even the scoring at 1-1. The two sides went tied into the third.

Orlando and South Carolina continued to stay locked at 1-1 until late in the third period. With just 1:30 left in the contest, forwards J.T. Barnett and Tyler Murovich forced a turnover to Kessel, and he fired a shot off the crossbar into the back of the net with 1:30 left in the game. The Solar Bears took a late penalty that allowed the Stingrays to pull their goaltender for a 6-on-4 advantage, but G Tyler Beskorowany and the Orlando penalty kill held South Carolina off the board to earn the win.

Orlando is now 8-0-1 in their last nine home games, tying their longest unbeaten-at-home streak since joining the ECHL...
