
Reign Battle Division Rivals In Back-To-Back Series

Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign head to Bakersfield to take on the Condors on Saturday, January 24 at Rabobank Arena, then return home to host the Condors on Sunday, January 25 at Citizens Business Bank Arena at a special 5 p.m. start time. The Reign took five of six points in their match-ups last week, as they hold on to their first place position in the Pacific Division standings. Sunday, January 25 is the Reign's "Affiliation Night", when the teams will don jerseys inspired by their NHL affiliate in the match; the Reign- Los Angeles Kings, the Condors- Anaheim Ducks. The Reign will auction the jerseys of their backs in a silent auction during the game to help benefit the San Antonio Community Hospital.

Wednesday, January 14 - Ontario Reign at Phoenix RoadRunners (W, 2-1)
The Reign defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners Wednesday evening at US Airways Center in Phoenix, before a crowd of 2,253. Right wing Mike Howe opened the scoring with a first period power play goal, with assists from defenseman David Walker and right wing Geoff Walker at 11:47, to put the Reign up 1-0. Phoenix scored less than a minute later to tie the game at, 1-1, with Reign forward Dale Reinhardt netting a power play goal late in the first period, off assists from Geoff Walker and defenseman Shawn Germain, to put the Reign ahead, 2-1, at 16:24 in the stanza. Phoenix was unable to find the back of the net during the remaining two periods and the Reign held on to the lead to win the game, 2-1.
Friday, January 16 - Ontario Reign vs. Utah Grizzlies (OTL, 3-4)
The Ontario Reign fell to the Utah Grizzlies Friday evening, in an overtime bout, at Citizens Business Bank Arena, in front of 4,792 fans. The Reign got on the board first as center Jon Francisco lit the lamp at 9:20 in the first period to make the score 1-0. Utah tied the game, at one apiece, when they scored on a power play at 15:21 in the stanza. Jon Francisco netted his second goal of the night at 4:36 in the second period to put the Reign ahead, 2-1, with defenseman David Walker and left wing Todd Jackson registering the assists on the play. Defenseman Andrew Martens pushed the Reign lead to two when he scored only 35-seconds into the third period, off assists from right wing Itan Chavira and center Jon Francisco, to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Reign. Utah scored two unanswered goals in the third, one goal on a power play, to tie the game, 3-3. Neither team was able to break the tie before the end of regulation, sending the match into overtime. Fifty-nine seconds into the extra session, Utah lit the lamp to clinch the win, with a final score Reign 3, Grizzlies, 4.
Saturday, January 17 - Ontario Reign vs. Utah Grizzlies (W, 7-6)(SO)
The Reign took the win in the second game of a heated back-to-back homestand against the Grizzlies Saturday evening, in front of 8,532 fans, the Reign's second largest crowd of the season. Utah's Jon Gleed opened the scoring when he shot the puck past goaltender John Murray at 5:51 in the first period to give the Grizzlies the 1-0 lead. Reign captain Jon Francisco tied the game, 1-1, when he took advantage of a rebound off Utah goaltender Michael Mole's pads less than a minute later, with right wing Itan Chavira and defenseman Andrew Martens registering the assists. Defenseman Dan Knapp lit the lamp at 10:40 in the period, putting the Reign ahead, 2-1, on a redirect off forward Dale Reinhardt's bid. Utah answered back with two goals to close out the first stanza, taking a 3-2 lead into the second period.
After a nearly scoreless second period, right wing Geoff Walker netted the game-tying goal, 3-3, on a power play at the 18:42 mark, with Reinhardt registering the assist and his second point of the night on the play. Left wing Todd Jackson scored two back-to-back shorthanded goals, setting a new club record for most shorthanded goals scored by a player in a single game, as he brought the Reign ahead of the Grizzlies, 5-3. The Reign extended their lead, 6-3, when Jon Francisco netted his third point of the night on a power play goal at 7:11. Utah's Ryan Kinasewich, Evan Kotsopoulos, and Mike Walsh closed the point gap when they each found the back of the net in just over a three minute span, and sent the teams into overtime with a score of 6-6. Neither team found the back of the net in the 5-minute sudden death overtime, forcing the game winner to be determined in a shootout. Only Reign defenseman Andrew Martens lit the lamp, giving Ontario the win over Utah with a final score of Reign 7, Grizzlies, 6 (SO).
