STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, in conjunction with its charitable arm, the Stockton Thunder and Lightning Foundation, announced $40,380 was raised in cash, tickets and memorabilia for "Thunder Goes Pink III," held Nov. 7-8.

"Thunder Goes Pink III," presented by St. Joseph's Medical Center in association with County Bank and MetroPCS, sought to help spotlight and raise funds and awareness for local breast cancer treatment and prevention. Once again the event proved to be a rousing success.

"The Stockton Thunder continues to make every effort to reach out for imperative causes in our community and we're nothing less than thrilled with how much our fans and business partners stepped up for Thunder Goes Pink III," said Thunder president Dan Chapman. "Our hope is that we're continuously assisting with a significant contribution in the fight against breast cancer and we're confident that this year's total brings us to that goal."

In its third year, the weekend event (held Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8 at Stockton Arena) increased the all-time total to over $113,380 to benefit the American Cancer Society - Stockton Field Office and the St. Joseph's Foundation - Breast Cancer Services. Representatives from both organizations will be on hand at Stockton Arena on Friday, January, 23 when the Thunder faces the Phoenix RoadRunners, to each be presented with checks in the denomination of $20,190 to aid in local awareness and education programs.

"It was really great to see the amount of enthusiasm generated by Thunder Goes Pink," said Sandy Stoddard, community services director for the American Cancer Society - Stockton Field Office. "Being in its third year, people knew about it, expected great things, and brought a great deal of excitement to the event. The attendance was higher than ever, which means even more awareness about breast cancer and surviving."

Nearly 18,000 fans (including a sell-out crowd of 9,737 on November 8) attended the two games, which featured a pink-colored ice surface, pink-themed giveaways, specialty jerseys, and live and silent auctions.

Funds for the Thunder Goes Pink III beneficiaries were raised via a number of different avenues. Including $2 from each walk up and group ticket sold. Fans in attendance bid on one-of-a kind sports memorabilia and gift items in a silent auction held in the concourse of Stockton Arena for both games. In addition, commemorative t-shirts featuring the "Thunder Goes Pink" theme were sold prior to the event with $5 from each t-shirt being donated to the beneficiaries.
