Reich and Bentivoglio both net a pair in win

Bridgeport, Conn. - They needed it, and they got it. The Sound Tigers walked away with two important points in an important Atlantic Division showdown, defeating the Providence Bruins 4-1. Jeremy Reich and Sean Bentivoglio both netted a pair of goals in the win. The win over the Bruins, closes out a three-game home, and improves the Sound Tigers' record to 29-27-3-6 this season.
The night did not start in the Sound Tigers favor though, as it was Zach Hamill of the Bruins scoring the game's first goal, just 56 seconds into the first period. Hamill's 13th goal of the season gave an early 1-0 to the Bruins, who were coming off a 2-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs the previous night. Hamill buried a one timer off a Jordan Knackstedt feed from the near side circle past the blocker of Sound Tigers' goalie Scott Munroe.
To regain the momentum, Sound Tigers' head coach Jack Capuano sent out the fourth line, anchored by Pascal Morency. He made quick work of his first shit, as he fought Lane MacDermid in the neutral zone just 1:07 after the goal. Morency and MacDermid exchanged lefts and rights, however it was Morency who gained the applause from the crowd after he took down MacDermid to end the fight. Morency's magic worked, turning the momentum as the Sound Tigers tied the game at one, just three minutes later.
Reich found the back of the net with his fifth marker of the campaign after his initial pass to Matt Martin was deflected in the slot and changed direction on Bruins goaltender Kevin Regan. After cheating to his left, anticipating Martin's shot, Regan had the puck bounce to his right and slide past his outstretched arm.
With Bruins' defenseman Rob Kwiet in the box with a double minor for an interference call, plus an added on unsportsmanlike conduct minor, the Sound Tigers used another favorable bounce with 4:55 left in the first period to take the 2-1 lead. On the man-advantage, Mark Wotton took a pass from Micheal Haley and quickly threw it on net, only to be deflected though by Sean Bentivoglio who was camped out in front. After the deflection, the puck changed route mid air and hit Regan, skipping off the Providence goalie's helmet and bouncing into the back of the net. The goal was Bentivoglio's 16th of the season.
Not to be out done by his teammate, Reich kicked off the middle period with his second of the game, yet did not realize he had scored. With 11:07 already gone in the second, Greg Mauldin brought the puck deep into the Bruins' zone and circled around a Bruin defender. The puck squirted through and hit Reich's left skate while he looked the other way, and the puck slowly trickled past Regan' right pad to put the Sound Tigers up 3-1.
The Bruins, who could not solve Munroe after he gave up that early goal in the first, found themselves even more frustrated, as they peppered Munroe with 12 shots.
Bentivoglio would answer his teammate's second tally with number two for himself. Sound Tigers' center, Mike Radja carried the puck deep into the Bruins' near corner, and throw the puck out in front with traffic forming. The puck changed directions in a sea of skates before landing on the tape of Bentivoglio. He took the puck over to his backhand and shot it inside the post to give the Sound Tigers four unanswered goals and a 4-1 lead over the Bruins with 5:01 remaining on his 17th of he year.
Bruins' Head Coach Rob Murray had seen enough and pulled Regan after the goal, replacing him with back-up Matt Dalton after who would stop all 14 shots he faced.
Providence could not solve Munroe in the third, as he stopped all eight Bruin shots in the final 20 minutes. The third produced zeroes for both teams on the score sheet, however it was the Sound Tigers who headed into the locker with a 4-1 victory.
Scoot Munroe made 28 saves in the win for his, 14th Sound Tiger victory of the season. Regan stopped 14 of 18 Sound Tiger shots.
The Sound Tigers travel to Manchester tomorrow for to close out the weekend with another Atlantic Division battle, as they take on the Monarchs at 3 p.m. The Monarchs are the first of a four game road trip for the Sound Tigers.
