Albany River Rats News Release
NORFOLK, VA- River Rats leading scorer Jerome Samson scored two goals with one assist to lift Albany to a 4-2 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday night at the Norfolk Scope.
Oscar Osala chipped in two assists for Albany and goaltender Justin Pogge made 29 saves, as the River Rats extended their lead to three points over the third-place Admirals in the East Division.
David Tyrell drew first blood for Norfolk at 10:44 of the opening period, but Albany scored four straight goals to take a commanding lead. Samson buried a cross-ice feed from Osala to knot the game at 17:23 of the first period and Drayson Bowman gave the River Rats the lead just 1:24 later with a rebound tally from Jacob Micflikier and Bryan Rodney.
Samson's second goal of the game and 30th of the season gave Albany a 3-1 lead just 1:55 into the second period; Nick Dodge assisted on the eventual game-winner. Osala and Samson each notched assists on Albany's next strike, a Stefan Chaput bank-shot from behind the goal line that made it 4-1 at 5:21. Blair Jones scored the third period's only goal with 5:59 remaining; East Greenbush native Matt Lashoff assisted on the Admirals final strike.
Pogge stopped 29-of-31 shots faced in the game to earn his 13th win of the season and first as a River Rat, as Albany improved to 34-24-3-4. Admirals goalie Dustin Tokarski allowed four goals on 28 shots faced and took the loss, as Norfolk fell to 34-28-3-1 this year. The Admirals out-shot the River Rats 31-28 in the contest and went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Albany was 0-for-2 on the man-advantage.
Albany returns to action on Wednesday, March 12th with a road game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
