Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---Chicago Wolves defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy broke a 1-1 tie 7:25 into the third period and the Wolves held on for a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals before 13,024 fans at the Allstate Arena Saturday night.
Vishnevskiy's rocket from the blue line, which sailed past Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich, held up to be the deciding goal in the Amtrak Rivalry contest between the West Division foes. Chicago (40-18-1-5) sits atop the division with 86 points through 64 games.
The victory marked the 15th straight home game in which the Wolves have registered a point (14-0-0-1). The club has not suffered a regulation loss at the Allstate Arena since Dec. 27.
Right wing Spencer Machacek snared the other tally for Chicago, while forwards Jason Krog and Johnny Pohl had assists on both goals. Wolves goaltender Peter Mannino (20-3-0) denied 23 of 24 Admirals shots to collect his career-high 12th straight victory.
"It was a tough game, but I thought we did a real good job of adjusting after a tough day of travel," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever.
Machacek put the Wolves on the board first, 17:05 into the game. Pohl intercepted a Milwaukee clearing attempt in the neutral zone and sent the puck across to Krog, who slipped the puck to Machacek in the left face-off circle, where the right wing sent a quick flip past Dekanich, stick side.
Dekanich (20-12-4) posted 23 saves for the Admirals.
Milwaukee (34-22-1-6) evened things up, 1-1, at the 12:47 mark of the second period. Defenseman Alexander Sulzer cranked a slapshot from deep in the zone that flew through traffic in front of the net and found its way over Mannino's shoulder and into the top right corner of the net.
The Wolves play their fourth game in five days tomorrow when they host the Lake Erie Monsters at the Allstate Arena at 3 p.m.
