Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (57-41) powered their way past the Albuquerque Isotopes (47-51) 8-5 Friday night from Isotopes Park. AJ Reed (2-for-4) was the headline after launching his 21st homer of the season and his 70th career in a Grizzly uniform. It would tie him with Brett Pill for third all-time in franchise history. Damon Minor (79) and Todd Linden (84) are ahead of the lefty. Reed also drove in five runs, giving him a Triple-A best 80.
A pair of runs provided Fresno an early lead in the top of the first. Jake Marisnick (4-for-4, reached base five times) smoked a leadoff double to center before waltzing home on a Reed sacrifice fly to left. Then, Taylor Jones (2-for-5) smacked a double to right, knocking in Tyler White.
Anthony Bemboom (2-for-4) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second after a single to left plated Josh Fuentes (3-for-5).
Reed made it 3-1 in the top of the third when he spanked a double off the wall to dead center.
Albuquerque knotted the score at three in the bottom of the fourth. Drew Weeks grounded out to short, adding Fuentes. Then, Jordan Patterson scooted home on a Bemboom RBI single to left.
The Grizzlies grabbed a 5-3 advantage in the top of the fifth. Marisnick came around to score on a triple to center by Garrett Stubbs. It was his sixth triple of the year. Stubbs would stroll home a batter later when White singled to left.
Reed extended the lead to 8-3 in the top of the seventh with a three-run wallop to right field. This was the second time this season that Reed recorded five-plus RBI (six versus Oklahoma City on June 10th). Marisnick also notched his fourth run of the night thanks to the big fly. He would finish a homer shy of the cycle.
Fuentes trimmed the advantage to 8-4 in the bottom of the eighth after pounding a double to center off of Ken Giles.
Despite allowing one final run in the ninth, Buddy Boshers shut the door on an 8-5 win, boasting his fourth save.
Fresno starter Brock Dykxhoorn (5-1) hurled six innings en route to the win. He was charged with three runs (two earned), on seven hits, one walk and three whiffs. In 10 Triple-A outings, he has given up 42 hits and 10 free passes while striking out 54 in 55 and one-third frames. Reliever Dean Deetz followed Dykxhoorn by fanning a pair in a perfect seventh. On the other hand, Isotopes starter Peter Lambert (2-1, loss) lasted five innings. He scattered seven hits, five runs (earned), three walks and two punchouts.
With the victory, the Grizzlies improved to 18-7 in the first game of a series, 33-8 when recording 10-plus hits and 43-12 when scoring first.
Both teams continue the set tomorrow evening with two games from Isotopes Park. In the early game, the squads will wrap-up a suspended contest from June 3rd. It will start at 4:05 PT from the fourth inning. Following that, game two will commence with Fresno RHP Brady Rodgers (0-0, 6.23) and Albuquerque righty Chad Bettis (0-0, 0.00, MLB rehab) battling it out.
