Sacramento Pen Stifles El Paso Rally

The El Paso Chihuahuas' late comeback fell one run short in the Sacramento River Cats' 6-5 win Friday night. The Chihuahuas trailed 6-2 in the bottom of the eighth and struck four straight hits to get within one run. El Paso had the tying run in scoring position with no outs in both the eighth and ninth innings but Sacramento's bullpen held the lead.

Matt Szczur went 3-for-5 with three singles on his 29th birthday Friday. Brett Nicholas went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in the loss. Jonathan Aro pitched a scoreless relief outing on the day he was activated from El Paso's 7-day DL. Trey Wingenter struck out the side on 11 pitches in the top of the ninth.

Cory Spangenberg went 0-for-3 for El Paso, ending his hitting streak at 10 games. San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in his first MLB injury rehab game for Sacramento.
