DES MOINES, IA - Pitching highlighted Iowa and New Orleans' matchup as the Baby Cakes (46-53) just slipped by the I-Cubs (36-63) 1-0, Saturday at Principal Park.
Trevor Clifton answered the bell, holding New Orleans scoreless through five. The Baby Cakes broke through in the sixth as Austin Nola led off the inning with a double. Zac Gallen pushed the runner to second with a bunt and Isan Diaz plated the run on a double. Clifton put a second batter on via walk before surrendering the ball to Dakota Mekkes.
Mekkes pitched 1.1 scoreless frames, before handing the ball to lefty Kyle Ryan for the final six outs. The bullpen held the Baby Cakes to two hits and two walks through the effort.
