Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: Reno enters tonight winners of 12 of their last 14 ballgames and will send top pitching prospect Taylor Clarke to the mound tonight. The All-star break was kind to the Aces. Fresh and healthy, they have won eight of nine since the midsummer classic. With a record of 50-49, Reno is above the .500 mark for the first time since April 7th (2-1). Las Vegas will send southpaw P.J. Conlon to the mound who enters tonight with a record of 3-6.

Last Game: Game one of the three-game set with in-state rival Las Vegas was a slugfest. The Nevada Triple-A clubs combined for 11 runs on 15 hits in Reno's 11-8 victory. Braden Shipley picked up the win out of the bullpen with 1.1 innings of work. Reno was led by Christian Walker who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI. The Aces have won nine out of their last 10 games and have hit more home runs in the month of July than every team in professional baseball.

MVP(ower): Christian Walker's power has been on display since the first game he put on an Aces uniform. He's hit 46 homers since 2017 with the Aces, fourth-most in franchise history.

1. Brandon Allen - 55, 1. Mike Jacobs - 55, 3. Peter O'Brien - 50, 4. Christian Walker - 46. The 2017 Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player is batting .290 in 56 games with Reno this season and has 30 extra-base hits and 50 RBI. 40 percent of his career home runs have come in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization (49/125).

Let's Go Streaking: Ildemaro Vargas went 2-for-5 last night to continue his season-best 20-game hit streak. Vargas is 36-for-90 (.400) since June 24th with 6 doubles, 15 runs scored and 11 RBI. There are only four players in professional baseball with active hit streaks of 20 games or more. Mauricio Dubon (Pacific Coast League, 23) - Wander Franco (Appalachian League, 23) - Jacob Scavuzzo (Texas League, 21). Last season, Ketel Marte had the longest Aces streak of the season. He went 37-for-98, .378, with nine 2B, three 3B, one HR and 16 RBI from April 29 through May 22.

Five Spot: Christian Walker's five-RBI performance last night was just the fifth time this season an Aces player has accomplished the feat. Walker had three five-RBI showings last year with the Aces en route to a Pacific Coast League MVP award. In his Aces career, Walker has recorded 161 RBI, good for sixth in Aces franchise history. Ironically, current Las Vegas 51's outfielder Zach Borenstein is fifth with 166.

HOME MEANS NEVADA: New England Patriots and Super Bowl Champion Linebacker Kyle Van Noy is returning to his hometown of Reno, Nevada, to take some special guests from a local foster care agency to a Reno Aces baseball game on Saturday, July 21, 2018, as a part of Christmas in July at Greater Nevada Field. In addition to spending the evening with a NFL Pro Linebacker, his wife and a former Miss Utah USA, Kyle's special guests will receive game tickets to watch MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks Triple-A Affiliated Reno Aces take on the in-state rival Las Vegas 51's, hot dogs, chips, soda, Reno Aces swag, and a chance to run the bases after the game!
