MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The first-place Memphis Redbirds (62-37) had just two baserunners in the final five innings of the game Friday night at AutoZone Park and dropped the series opener to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers), 1-0.

The Sky Sox put down 10-straight Redbirds and one point and 16 of the final 18 en route to the win. Six Redbirds had a hit in the game, with Tyler O'Neill and Edmundo Sosa contributing doubles.

Chris Ellis was the tough-luck loser on the mound despite a solid outing. The right-hander gave up just one run on seven hits in 7.0 innings, and he struck out eight without a walk. The only run in the game came via a Christian Bethancourt home run in the top of the sixth inning.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Sosa roped a double inside the first-base line, but the last two hitters were retired to finish the game.

Memphis was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base.

Oscar Mercado pinch ran in the eighth and stole his 26th base of the season.

The Redbirds finish their seven-game homestand with two more games against the Sky Sox tomorrow and Sunday. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
