Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, Nebraska - The Round Rock Chupacabras (47-53) forced a series split with the Omaha Cazadores de Tormentas (44-55) thanks to a 6-3 victory in game two of Saturday's split doubleheader at Werner Park.
Round Rock RHP Tayler Scott (4-4, 4.35) picked up the win after blanking Omaha on three hits and a walk in 2.0 innings of relief. On the losing side, Cazadores de Tormentas starter RHP Michael Mariot (1-3, 6.94) suffered the loss despite giving up just one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four in 3.0 innings. Chupacabras starter RHP Deolis Guerra walked two and struck out two in 2.0 scoreless frames.
It took just one pitch for Round Rock to take the game's first lead as LF Drew Robinson connected on Mariot's first offering of the night for a solo home run that gave the Chupacabras an immediate 1-0 lead.
After three scoreless frames, both offenses came to life in the fifth inning. In the top half of the frame, Round Rock SS Hanser Alberto singled before scoring on a Robinson double. Newly promoted RF Franklin Rollin collected his first career Triple-A base hit in the next at-bat, a single that put runners on the corners for CF Scott Heineman. The outfielder delivered with a two-run double that padded the gap to 4-0.
The inning continued as 3B Andy Ibanez singled in the next at-bat. On the play, Omaha C Parker Morin committed a throwing error that allowed Heineman to score from third. The final blow in the big inning came in the form of a Christian Lopes RBI double that gave the Chupacabras a 6-0 lead.
The Cazadores de Tormentas jumped right back into the game in the home half of the inning. With LHP Brady Feigl on in relief of Scott, Morin made amends for his error by collecting a one-out double. CF Billy Burns answered with a single, then Feigl issued back-to-back walks that forced in a run. With the bases still loaded, RF Elier Hernandez plated two more runs with a single to trim the gap to 6-3.
However, Round Rock LHP Jeffrey Springs and RHP R.J. Alvarez teamed up for a pair of scoreless innings to preserve the 6-3 victory to close out the doubleheader.
Round Rock and Omaha will transform back into the Express and Storm Chasers for Sunday afternoon's series finale at Werner Park. E-Train RHP Richelson Pena (2-1, 6.29) is scheduled to do battle with Storm Chasers RHP Zach Lovvorn (1-3, 9.83).
First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. For more information on the Express, visit RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter!
