Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev. - Game one of the three-game set with in-state rival Las Vegas was a slugfest. The Nevada Triple-A clubs combined for 19 runs on 26 hits in Reno's 11-8 victory. Braden Shipley picked up the win out of the bullpen with 1.1 innings of work. Reno was led by Christian Walker who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI. The Aces have won nine out of their last 10 games and have hit more home runs in the month of July than every team in professional baseball.
The Aces jumped out to a six-run lead through two innings of play. A five-run top of the first was sparked by Ildemaro Vargas who extended his hit streak to 20 games with a lead-off single. Las Vegas plated four in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game at seven and force Greg Gross to remove Alex Young from the contest. Young allowed seven runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work. Three hits and an error allowed four Aces runs to score in the bottom of the sixth and that was all the offense Reno needed. The win improves the Aces to a record of 11-8 on the year 7.5 games out of first place.

Let's Go Streaking: Ildemaro Vargas went 2-for-5 tonight to continue his season-best 20-game hit streak. Vargas is 36-for-90 (.400) since June 24th with 6 doubles, 15 runs scored and 11 RBI. There are only four players in professional baseball with active hit streaks of 20 games or more. He went 37-for-98, .378, with nine 2B, three 3B, one HR and 16 RBI from April 29 through May 22.
Five Spot: Christian Walker's five-RBI performace tonight was just the fifth time this seaon an Aces player has accomplished the feat. Walker had three five-RBI showings last year with the Aces en route to a Pacific Coast League MVP award. In his Aces career Walker has recorded 161 RBI, good for sixth in Aces franchise history. Ironically, current Las Vegas 51's outfielder Zach Borenstein is fifth with 166.
