Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (33-42) beat the Wichita Wingnuts (41-34) by a score of 10-8 in a back-and-forth, offensive battle on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.

The RedHawks provided a big time show during their Breast Cancer Awareness Night in front of the 4,232 fans that came out to the ball park on this Wednesday night. The offense belted out 15 hits and 10 runs, four of which came in the seventh inning to give the RedHawks a 10-8 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Fargo-Moorhead got rolling again in the first inning but unlike last night they were able to stay on their roll against the Wichita pitching staff. The middle of order was a main reason for the RedHawks' success. The third through sixth hitters combined for ten hits, eight runs, and five RBI. Six of their hits were for extra-bases including a two-run home run by Kyle Nichols.

RedHawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. That lead evaporated as Wichita scored five in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth as they opened up an 8-4 lead of their own.

Nic Jackson and the rest of Fargo-Moorhead weren't done yet though. Jackson led off the fifth inning with a triple leading to a two-run inning and jump started a four-run seventh inning with a leadoff single. Hoorelbeke had an RBI double in each of those innings and finished the night 3-for-5. Todd Jennings provided a clutch two-out single that scored the final two runs of the game late in the seventh inning as well.

Jennings was 2-for-2 with a season high three runs batted in on the night. Jackson ended up 4-for-5 with three runs scored and only a home run short of the cycle.

Kevin Fuqua (1-2) was brilliant in relief for the RedHawks, and he was rewarded with his first win as a professional. Fuqua pitched four shutout innings, struck out two and allowed only two hits to the dangerous Wingnuts offense. Fargo-Moorhead handed Matt Nevarez (0-1) his first three runs allowed and first loss of the season since he joined the Wingnuts on July 8th. Donnie Smith sealed the victory with his third save of the year.

The RedHawks will play the final game of their three-game series against the Wichita Wingnuts on Thursday night. Game time is 7:02 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
