Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Winnipeg Goldeyes connected on three homers to stop a three-game slide with a 9-4 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the finale of a three-game series.
A pair of homers enabled the host Goldeyes to charge out of the gates to a 5-0 lead. Brian Myrow homered to right in the first and with the bases loaded and no one out in the second, Justin Bass hit a grand slam off of RailCat starter Ryne Reynoso.
The RailCats plucked a run off the lead with an unearned tally in the third. Mike Rohde reached base on an error and moved to third on a one out double from Chris Carrara. Rohde crossed the plate on a groundout from Adam Klein. Winnipeg chased Reynoso from the game in the fifth, plating four more runs to go up 9-1. The big blow was a three-run homer from Jon Weber, greeting reliever Jeremy Hauer. Reynoso allowed eight runs in the defeat.
Brad Boyer whittled the lead down to 9-4 with a three-run homer in the sixth, his first long one since July 9 at St. Paul. The homer scored Klein, who walked, and Toddric Johnson, who singled. Winnipeg starter Chris Salamida collected the win, working into the seventh to improve to 8-3.
Boyer posted two hits and drove home three for the RailCats. Brian Grening, Chris Little, and Thomas Nelson combined to keep Winnipeg off the board for the final two innings. The victory was the 300th in the career of sixth-year Winnipeg Manager Rick Forney.
The RailCats return home for a brief three-game series against former Northern League friends the Kansas City T-Bones on Friday, August 5 for a 7:10 p.m. game featuring plenty of activities at U. S. Steel Yard including post-game fireworks, postgame music in the Diamond Club, and Greek Night and a Negro League Celebration. LHP Carlos Rivas (5-0, 2.16) will make the start for the RailCats against LHP Devin Anderson (6-6, 5.25).
