News Radio 1000 KTOK, RedHawks Radio Network | Play-by-Play: Jim Byers

RH Omar Beltre (0-5, 2.76) vs. LH Wes Whisler (0-0, 6.00)

TONIGHT: The RedHawks' 8-game trip continues with the third of a 4-game set at New Orleans. The Zephyrs leveled the series with an 8-4 win last night. The series began on Tuesday with the Zephyrs scoring the first 5 runs, followed by 14 unanswered OKC runs spanning part of 2 games. The Zephyrs enter tonight's game having scored the final 8 runs last night. Brandon McCarthy has been scratched from a scheduled start with shoulder soreness, so Omar Beltre gets the nod. Lefty Wes Whisler is slated to start for New Orleans. The RedHawks maintain a 3.5-game lead over Albuquerque and a 5.5-game edge over New Orleans in the division.

DAVIS GOES 1-FOR-4, STILL LEADS MINORS IN BATTING: For the month of June, Chris Davis is leading all of full-season, affiliated minor league baseball with a .444 batting average. With the major leagues included, Davis is second in batting this month behind Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who is hitting .476 in June. Davis has hit safely in 20 of 22 games in June, adding 4 homers and 15 RBIs. He's also leading all minor leaguers this month in hits (36) and is third in MiLB in on-base percentage (.495) behind Brandon Belt of the Class A San Jose Giants (.565) and Anthony Seratelli of Class AA Northwest Arkansas (.517).

IDENTICAL RECORDS: Last night OKC surpassed the half-way mark of what will be a rain-shortened, 143-game season. The RedHawks have identical home and road records after 72 games, 20-16.

SALTY SITS: OKC catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia did not play last night, but has accumulated many of his offensive totals during the season series with New Orleans. Until being blanked on Tuesday, he had homered in 5 straight games against the Zephyrs. Six of his 9 homers and half of his season total of 22 RBIs have come against New Orleans. Each of his last 5 homers has been off Zephyrs pitching.

STARTS AND STOPS: OKC starting pitchers are 1-1 with a 7.61 ERA in 6 games this trip. The starters have allowed 30 hits and 20 earned runs in 23.2 innings, with 16 walks and 28 strikeouts.

SCHEPPERS' FUTURE: RedHawks righthander Tanner Scheppers has been named to the U.S. roster for the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, to be played in Anaheim July 11. Scheppers, who began the year in the Double-A Frisco bullpen, served a stint in OKC's bullpen and is now being stretched out as a starter, is Texas' only representative in the game. He's combined between 2 levels to go 1-0 with 2 saves and a 2.29 ERA, striking out 58 in 41.2 innings.

HOMERS CONTINUE: The RedHawks have homered in 11 straight games, totaling 17 in that span, and are 29-15 when hitting at least 1 homer in a contest. They are 11-17 when homerless. The RedHawks have hit 18 home runs that tied a game or gave them the lead in the fifth inning or later. OKC is 14-4 when getting a game-tying or lead-taking homer from the fifth inning on (see chart on page 6 for details). In 13 games against New Orleans, the RedHawks have hit 21 homers, accounting for 30.4 % of their season total of 69 home runs. OKC has faced more New Orleans more than any other PCL team to this point of the season, having played 14 games.

ERA NO. 1: OKC leads the PCL lead in team ERA at 3.58. Iowa and Tacoma are next at 3.76. After not allowing a home run during the first 3 games of this trip, the RedHawks have given up a homer in 3 straight. OKC has still allowed the fewest home runs in the league (37), 13 fewer than Fresno.

MISCELLANY: OKC is 0-7 when allowing exactly 8 runs, as it did last night...Esteban German hit his second homer of the year last night and both have been 3-run shots...the other was a walk-off against Memphis...The RedHawks scored 8 runs in 3 games this season against last night's starter Brian Lawrence and 7 came on various home runs.
