Round Rock Express News Release
HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston Astros have placed right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino on the 15-day Disabled List due to tendinitis in his right shoulder, Astros General Manager Ed Wade announced today.
Wade also announced that the Astros have purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Josh Banks from Triple A Round Rock. Banks will start in place of Paulino on Saturday vs. the Texas Rangers in Arlington. The addition of Banks puts the Astros 40-man roster at 40.
Paulino's stint on the DL has been backdated to June 21, making him eligible for reinstatement on July 6. In 14 starts this season, Paulino, 26, is 1-8 with a 4.40 ERA (42ER/86IP) with 43 walks and 76 strikeouts. Since May 19, he has posted a 3.28 ERA (17ER/46.2IP) in seven starts (Astros are 4-3 in those games). Paulino has registered a quality start in seven of his last nine starts.
Banks, 27, is leading the Round Rock staff in wins and ERA with an 8-5 record and 2.97 ERA (32ER/97IP) in 15 starts. Since May 1, he is 7-2 with a 2.67 ERA (20ER/67.1IP). In parts of three seasons in the Majors, Banks is 4-7 with a 5.68 ERA (69ER/115.1IP) in 26 appearances (18 starts). Most recently, he made six appearances (3 starts) with the San Diego Padres in 2009. He also appeared in three games for Toronto in 2007 and a career-high 17 games (14 starts) for the Padres in 2008.
