
Fuld Helps Lift I-Cubs

Sam Fuld went 4-for-4 during the Iowa Cubs 5-4 win over the Omaha Royals at Principal Park Thursday night.
Fuld scored twice and drove in one run for Iowa - the go-ahead run in front of 10,739 fans. Down 4-3 heading into the seventh, with two outs catcher Chris Robinson drove in Bobby Scales to tie the game 4-4. Fuld then singled to left, scoring Jim Adduci for the go-ahead run and 5-4 final.
Omaha took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Irving Falu and David Lough led off with consecutive singles. Alex Gorden drove in the duo with a double. Fuld doubled to lead off the first inning for Iowa. He scored on a fielder's choice to get Iowa on the board and trim Omaha's lead, 2-1.
An Edwin Bellorin second-inning RBI single gave Omaha a 3-1 lead, but the Cubs answered right back. Matt Camp doubled before Fuld singled with one out in the second inning. Darwin Barney was hit by a pitch before Omaha's starting pitcher Manauris Baez walked Micah Hoffpauir, bringing home a run, making it a 3-2 game. With the bases still loaded, Jason Dubois also drew a walk, tying the game 3-3.
Back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning gave Omaha a 4-3 lead. However it would not last as the Cubs plated two runs in the seventh inning to pull ahead for the win. Iowa starting pitcher Thomas Diamond struck out six batters, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings, and did not factor in the decision.
Justin Berg (3-1, 2.75) picked up his third win, throwing two innings of scoreless relief. Brian Schlitter collected his 12th save. Omaha's Federico Castaneda (3-1, 3.25) was tagged with the loss.
