Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev. - Colorado Springs scored five times in the first inning Thursday night and never looked back, doubling-up the Reno Aces 10-5 in the third game of a four-game set at Aces Ballpark.

The Sky Sox sent 10 men to the plate in the first frame, collecting six hits and five runs off Aces starter Cesar Valdez (1-3). The Reno offense would claw its way back, but a four-run Colorado Springs fourth inning was enough to put the game away for good.

Valdez worked three innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits. After Jason Urquidez was tagged for four runs in two innings, Luis Ayala hurled three scoreless innings to keep the Aces in the game before T.J. Beam threw the ninth for the Aces.

The win went to Sky Sox starter Josh Muecke (2-4), who gave up four earned runs in five innings of work. Three Sky Sox relievers held the Aces to just one run the rest of the way.

At the plate for Reno, Yunesky Sanchez, Jeff Bailey and Chris Rahl all homered in the losing effort. Mark Hallberg added two hits and scored a run for Reno, which snapped a four-game winning streak with the loss.

The Aces and Sky Sox wrap-up the series on Friday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Matt Torra (3-5, 4.18 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Sky Sox counter with RHP Esmil Rogers (1-2, 8.33 ERA). First pitch from Aces Ballpark is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and Friday is another Saint Mary's Fireworks Friday, presented by KOLO 8.
