Dickey knuckles down, RedHawks are 5-0

The Oklahoma RedHawks continued their franchise-best start to the 2006 season with a 5-3 win over the Round Rock Express Monday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

R.A. Dickey started and earned the win for the RedHawks, who are now 5-0. Round Rock fell to 1-4.

Dickey went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He threw 77 pitches, 53 for strikes. Dickey's performance came four days after he gave up a major league record-tying six home runs in a start for the Texas Rangers against the Detroit Tigers.

He gave up a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning and another in the sixth when relief pitcher John Wasdin gave up a two-out single to Hector Gimenez that brought home Royce Huffman. Huffman had doubled off Dickey earlier in the inning.

The RedHawks were led offensively by rehabbing major leaguer Gary Matthews. Matthews went three-for-three with three runs scored. Adam Hyzdu and Rashad Eldridge both had two RBIs for Oklahoma.

Three Round Rock hitters, including Gimenez, had two hits. Gimenez had one of the team's two doubles. Round Rock reliever Brandon Puffer pitched 3.2 innings and gave up one run on two hits.

The RedHawks and Express continue their series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. in Oklahoma City. Rob Tejeda is scheduled to start for Oklahoma with Houston's top prospect, Jason Hirsh, set to start for Round Rock.
