Beavers place Ben Risinger on disabled list

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today placed catcher Ben Risinger on the disabled list with a sprained left ankle and announced that catcher Luke Carlin has been transferred to Portland from Class AA Mobile.

Risinger, who marked his fourth Opening Day with the Beavers this year, was 0-for-3 in one game played this season. In four years with Portland, Risinger, 28, has a .239 batting average, 36 doubles, 12 home runs and 74 RBIs in 207 games. Risinger began his career in 1998 with independent Springfield and signed with the San Diego Padres prior to the 2000 season.

Carlin, 25, started the season with Mobile, going 0-for-5 in two games played. The catcher spent the entire 2005 campaign with the BayBears, batting .257 with two home runs and 25 RBIs in 88 games. He was a 10th-round selection of the Detroit Tigers in the 2002 draft and later signed with the Padres on April 29, 2003, after one season in the Tigers organization.

Carlin started for the Beavers at catcher and was 0-for-1 in the March 31 exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners at PGE Park.

The Beavers active roster remains at its 24-man limit.
