Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK) - The Round Rock Express scored first on Monday night at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. RF Charlton Jimerson's bunt single and stolen base, and a throwing error by catcher Jamie Burke, led to a sacrifice fly off the bat of 2B Brooks Conrad, and at the end of one inning, the E-Train had a 1-0 lead.
But the Oklahoma RedHawks came roaring back. They put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a single by CF Gary Matthews, Jr., a double from 1B Jason Botts, a ground out that scored a run by DH Erubiel Durazo, and an Adam Hyzdu RBI single.
Oklahoma put up two more runs to make the score 4-2 in the third inning, on a two-run double off the bat of LF Rashad Eldridge.
Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey went to work for Oklahoma going five and a third innings, while giving up a second run to the Express in the top of the sixth inning. 1B Royce Huffman drilled a one out double, and Huffman scored on C Hector Giminez' two out single that made it 4-2 Oklahoma.
Dickey gave way to former Rangers starter John Wasdin who completely shut down Express hitters, striking out seven in two and two thirds innings.
The RedHawks added their fifth run in the seventh inning off Express reliever Brandon Puffer. Round Rock picked up its final run in the top of the ninth inning, as Cody Ransom singled. Reliever Kevin Walker's two wild pitches moved Ransom to third. He scored on a double play ball, and that was the final, 5-3 Oklahoma.
Tuesday night, the Express will send right-hander Jason Hirsh (0-0, 2.08) to the mound to face RedHawk righty Robinson Tejeda (0-0, 9.00) for game two of the four game series. The Round Rock Express return to The Dell Diamond for their 2006 home opener on Friday, April 14 to take on the Iowa Cubs, game time is set for 7:05 PM.
