ROYALS REPORT: All 4 of the Royals wins this season have come in their final at-bat. The Royals improved to 2-0 in games decided by a run. *** Guiel was 1-for-12 on the season after striking out in his first two at-bats facing Olsen. The Royals right fielder doubled off Olsen in the 6th for his 1st extra-base hit of the season. Guiel's 8th inning home run was the 92nd of his Omaha career and gave him 323 RBI; he ranks 3rd in both categories on the team's career charts. *** Bass had allowed just 2 hits and had retired 11 of 12 batters prior to surrendering the back-to-back doubles in the 7th that tied the game at 1-1. *** Chad Allen went 1-for-4 last night, extending his season-opening hitting streak to 5 games. Allen is off to a .368 (7-19) start at the plate. *** Second baseman Ruben Gotay was 2-for-4 last night, including a single to set the stage for Guiel's 2-run homer. Gotay has hit in 4 straight games, going 6-for-15 (.400) during the streak. *** Third baseman Mike Aviles turned in several web gems last night. Aviles made a nifty short-hop backhanded stop of Jason Stokes grounder in the 2nd inning and made a sensational diving stop of Tom Wilson's smash down the 3rd base line in the 6th. Aviles was also on the front end of 2 around-the-horn double plays, the last one coming in the 8th inning after a leadoff single. *** The Isotopes did not have much luck on the base paths in the series opener. Mark Little was caught attempting to steal second in the 6th, pinch-runner James Shanks was picked off 2nd base in the 7th and Little was nailed by Phillips attempting to take third on a pitch in the dirt in the 9th.
