HEADLINES: Dickey earns first win ... RedHawks are 5-0 ... Matthews goes 3-for-3
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Round Rock Express are the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 2005. The franchise re-located from Edmonton following the 2004 season. Round Rock is located about 18 miles north of Austin, Texas.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand against Round Rock.
LAST GAME: Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey picked up the win in Oklahoma's 5-3 win over Round Rock. Dickey went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. Gary Matthews went three-for-three with three runs scored. Jason Botts had his third double of the year and went two-for-three.
VS. ROUND ROCK: Last year the RedHawks were 6-10 against the Express and 2-6 against them at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. However, the RedHawks took three of four in a series in Round Rock 8/12-15 to help them win the PCL American Southern division.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Rob Tejeda makes his second start this season for the RedHawks. He started opening day April 6 against Memphis and did not factor in the decision. He pitched three innings and gave up four runs/three earned on six hits. Tejeda pitched for the Dominican Republic during the World Baseball Classic in March. He had no record with a 6.75 ERA in two games for the Dominican. Right hander Jason Hirsh starts for Round Rock. He is Houston's No. 1 prospect for 2006 according to Baseball America.
BEST START: The RedHawks 5-0 start to the season is their best ever. They started 2-0 and 3-1 in 2000. They lost their first three games last year.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 25-5 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (.833) including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 24-4 (.857) at home in regular season games since July 22.
MIGHTY PEN: The RedHawks bullpen has been solid through five games. The bullpen is 3-0-2 with a 0.68 ERA (2 ER/26.1 IP) in five games. They have allowed one of five (.200) inherited runners to score and first batters are 3-for-13 against them with five strikeouts. The RedHawks bullpen has walked 10 batters and struck out 33.
PITCHING: RedHawks pitchers have more strikeouts (53) than hits allowed (52) through five games in 2006. They have not allowed a home run through 49 innings so far this year.
JASON BOTTS: In the last four games, 1B Jason Botts is 9-for-12 (.750) with three home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs. Through five games he is batting .526 with nine RBIs. Last year he batted .150 (3-for-20) with two RBIs in his first five games.
QUICK START: The RedHawks have scored 18 of their 33 runs this season in the first three innings (55 percent). They've scored seven runs in innings four through six, seven in innings seven through nine and one run in the 13th inning.
ATTENDANCE: The RedHawks set Oklahoma City Triple-A records for total and average attendance in 2005. They drew 542,095 fans for 70 home openings, an average of 7,744. They averaged 6,678 fans in 2004 and 7,221 fans in 1998, the previous record set the first year of AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: The RedHawks have four triples this year. They didn't get their third triple of 2005 until their 12th game of the season on April 18 ... 3B Marshall McDougall went one-for-four in his first game as a RedHawk of 2006 last night. He is on major league rehab recovering from surgery on his left wrist ... DH Erubiel Durazo went 0-for-2 with an RBI in his first game as a RedHawk last night.
