Memphis Redbirds News Release
THE OPPOSITION: The Redbirds will welcome the Omaha Royals to AutoZone Park for four games to begin the 2006 home schedule on Friday, April 14. Memphis will then take on Oklahoma in a four game set beginning Tuesday, April 18. The Redbirds will look to avenge being swept by the RedHawks in their season opening series at Oklahoma.
HOMESTAND HIGHLIGHTS: The first 5,000 fans through the gates on Opening Night will receive a Redbirds schedule magnet. The Redbirds will hold the first fireworks show of the season following the game on Saturday, April 15. Kids will have the chance to hunt for Easter eggs on the bluff before the game on Sunday, April 16. Tuesday, April 18, Time Warner will sponsor a CD holder giveaway to the first 1500 fans. The Zooperstars return to AZP Thursday, April 20, to help celebrate Memphis City Schools Reads Night. The Redbirds will close out their first homestand of 2006 with Kids Opening Day on Friday, April 21. The first 1,500 kids will receive a PD Parrot doll and after the game scouts, who have registered, will be able to camp out on the outfield grass in conjunction with Scout Night at AZP.
âZOOPER' TIME: The Zooperstars will make their first appearance at AZP this season. The inflatable entertainers will bring crowd favorites Harry Canary, Roger Clamens, Ken Giraffey Jr. and Yao Flamingo.
FIELD OF DREAMS: A special group of Redbirds fans will be pulling an all-nighter at AZP as the Redbirds host the Scout Sleepover on Friday, April 21. After the âBirds wrap up the series finale against Oklahoma, scouts, who have registered, will be able to camp out on the outfield grass.
ON THE TUBE: The first two games of each series during the âBirds first homestand will be televised on Time Warner Cable. The home opener against Omaha April 14, will mark the first televised game of the season for the Redbirds. Fans can also catch the âBirds on the tube Saturday, April 15, Tuesday April 18 and Wednesday April 19.
GIVE ME FIVE: Redbirds home games in 2006 will start five minutes later than they did a year ago. Weeknight games will start at 7:10 with Wednesday matinees beginning at 1:10. Saturday night contests are slated for 6:10 and Sunday games will begin at 2:10.
LOOKING AHEAD: After the eight game homestand the Redbirds will hit the road for eight games beginning at Omaha. After four games with the Royals, Memphis will enjoy its' first off day of the season on Wednesday, April 26, before traveling to Iowa to take on the Cubs in a four game set. The âBirds return home for another eight game homestand beginning May 1.
