RedHawks Cruise to 13-5 Win at Tucson

Tucson, Ariz. - Anderson Hernandez was 5-for-7 and Chris Johnson and Robinson Cancel each collected three RBI while leading the Oklahoma City RedHawks (51-65) to a 13-5 win over the Tucson Padres (53-62) before 2,206 Sunday night at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium.

RedHawks reliever Xavier Cedeno (1-1) allowed three runs and five hits in four innings for a winning decision. Starter Sergio Perez left the game two batters into the second inning with a groin injury. Padres starter John Van Benschoten gave up five earned runs and nine hits in four innings for the losing decision.

Hernandez collected a first inning single, fifth inning infield hit, sixth inning double, seventh inning RBI single and eighth inning double for the first five-hit game for Oklahoma City in 2011.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a Robinson Cancel double, the RedHawks gave up three runs in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back RBI triples from Eric Patterson and Drew Macias and a later RBI single from Steve Tolleson for a 3-1 Tucson lead.

The RedHawks took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning. Brett Wallace singled in a run, Chris Johnson added an RBI double and a two-run single from Cancel capped off the frame for a 5-3 RedHawks lead.

Oklahoma City scored five runs in the seventh inning against reliever Luis Perdomo. A Perdomo throwing error brought in the first run, while RBI hits from Delome, Hernandez, Johnson and Cancel opened a 10-4 advantage.

The RedHawks capped off the night with a three-run eighth inning. Koby Clemens belted a first pitch, pinch hit home run and Johnson and Locke collected RBI hits later for the 13 RedHawk runs.

Tucson's Kyle Phillips hit his first home run, a solo shot, in the sixth inning and added a groundout RBI in the eighth inning for a 13-5 final.
