Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

For the second straight week, an Albuquerque Isotopes player has been singled out by the Pacific Coast League, as infielder Russ Mitchell has been named PCL Batter of the Week for games beginning on August 1 and continuing through August 7 after batting .467 over seven games.

Mitchell racked up 14 hits in 30 at-bats for the week, while scoring nine times, hitting three doubles, a triple, three home runs, and driving in 14. The native of Cartersville, Georgia has collected multiple hits in each of his last three games and in five of his last six while raising his batting average on the season from .264 to .288 in just a week. On August 6 vs. Tacoma, Mitchell belted two three-run homers, racking up a career-high six RBI.

This marks the second time in as many years Mitchell has been recognized by the Pacific Coast League, as he won Batter of the Week from August 23 to August 30 last year.

Surprisingly, Mitchell is the first Isotopes batter to win the PCL's weekly honor, while three ‚¬ËœTopes hurlers have won PCL Pitcher of the Week this season, including Dana Eveland, who captured the honor last week.
