Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Round Rock, TX - The Tacoma Rainiers held on to a late lead and topped the Round Rock Express 8-7 at The Dell Diamond on Monday night.
Tacoma, holding onto an 8-5 advantage, watched Round Rock cut their deficit down to a pair of runs on a defensive mistake. Second baseman Matt Tuiasosopo committed a throwing error on a force attempt, clearing the way for two Express runs to score with one out.
Round Rock's rally ended there, with Tacoma retiring five of the next six batters they faced to collect back-to-back wins over the Express.
After falling behind 3-0 early, the Rainiers took their first lead of the night in the top of the third inning. Outfielder Carlos Peguero hit a two-out, two-run home run to tie the score and Tuiasosopo put Tacoma ahead with an RBI-single two batters later.
A Val Majewski home run handed the lead back to Round Rock in the bottom of the inning, but first baseman Johan Limonta belted a three-run blast in the fourth to put the Rainiers back on top to stay.
Tuiasosopo and outfielder Greg Halman were the only two Rainiers to turn in multi-hit outings after each collected a pair of hits, with Halman hitting a double in the fourth inning.
Tacoma starter Nate Robertson (4-5) ended a three-game losing skid after holding the Express to seven runs, five earned, on 11 hits over 6.1 innings of work. Right-handed reliever Scott Patterson picked up his sixth save of the season after tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Round Rock's Eric Hurley (6-1) surrendered all eight of Tacoma's runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts over a 4.1-inning start.
The Rainiers (59-58) take the field for the third game of their four-game series with the Express at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday night. Right-hander Forrest Snow (0-1, 5.60) is set to take the mound for the Rainiers against right-hander Ryan Tucker (2-4, 5.06) for Round Rock.
