Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Steve Delabar struck out Chad Tracy and induced an inning-ending flyout from Kevin Cash with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the Tacoma Rainiers' 8-7 victory over the Round Rock Express in Monday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (68-49) snapped a 10-game winning streak in Eric Hurley starts. The Rainiers (59-58) have won each of the series' first two games and have won six straight at The Dell Diamond.
Hurley (6-1) suffered his least effective start of the season, allowing all eight runs on 10 hits and three walks over 4.1 innings with two strikeouts. It marked Round Rock's first loss in five Hurley starts following a team loss. The Express lost with Hurley on the mound for the first time since the season's second game April 8 against Iowa.
Tacoma starter Nate Robertson (4-5) benefited from Delabar's relief work for the win. Robertson allowed seven runs - five earned - on 11 hits and a walk over 6.1 innings; he struck out five. Shawn Kelley worked a scoreless eighth, while Scott Patterson worked around a one-out walk for a scoreless ninth and his sixth save.
Round Rock got an unearned run in the first and two runs in the second to build a 3-0 lead. Tacoma rallied with a four-run third, keyed by Carlos Peguero's two-run homer. Val Majewski put the Express back in the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, but the lead was short-lived. Tacoma again answered in the top of the fourth on Johan Limonta's three-run homer.
Mike Wilson scored what proved to be the game-deciding run in the fifth when he led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Jose Yepez double. Round Rock scored a pair of runs on two hits and a Tacoma error in the seventh but could not push across the tying run.
Joey Butler, Leonys Martin and Craig Gentry all had two-hit games for the Express. Gentry scored twice, and Majewski had three RBI.
Greg Halman and Matt Tuiasosopo had two hits each for the Rainiers, who improved to 4-2 on their current road trip. Halman and Mike Wilson each scored twice.
Round Rock and Tacoma continue their four-game series Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Ryan Tucker (2-4, 5.06 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Forrest Snow (0-1, 5.60 ERA) is set to go for the Rainiers.
