Reddick to Boston, Place Activated from the D.L.

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Josh Reddick has been called-up to the Boston Red Sox. Sea Dogs' outfielder Jason Place was activated from the disabled list to replace Reddick on the Sea Dogs active 24 man roster. Reddick will wear number 68 for the Red Sox. He is the 163rd Sea Dog to appear in the Major Leagues.

Reddick and Pawtucket right-handed pitcher Marcus McBeth were added to the Red Sox roster to replace first baseman Adam LaRoche and former Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson who were both involved in trades today. Masterson along with prospects Nick Hagadone and Bryan Price were dealt to the Cleveland Indians for first baseman/catcher Victor Martinez. While Adam LaRoche was dealt to the Atlanta Braves for first baseman Casey Kotchman.

In 63 games with the Sea Dogs in 2009, Reddick hit .277 (71-for-256) with 13 home runs and 29 RBI. Reddick is rated by Baseball America as the fifth ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization. Baseball America also rates Reddick as having the "Best Outfield" arm amongst Red Sox minor leaguers. The 22 year-old was selected by the Boston Red Sox in 17th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

The 21 year-old Place has been sidelined since July 23rd. Place has appeared in eight games for the Sea Dogs this hitting batting .231 (6-for-26) with two doubles. Place was promoted to the Sea Dogs from Single-A Salem on July 10th. In 76 games for the Salem Red Sox this season, Place hit .252 (76-for-302) with four home runs and 48 RBI. The Easley, South Carolina resident was the Red Sox first pick (27th overall) in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Tuesday, August 4th at 7:00 PM against the Altoona Curve. The Sea Dogs are currently in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a three game series with the Harrisburg Senators. Tickets are available for most 2009 Sea Dogs' home games.
