Sens Fall to Sea Dogs 8-3

After playing two games late into the night on Thursday in Trenton, the Sens came home on Friday night and dropped the series opener to Portland 8-3. Harrisburg was still playing in Trenton on Thursday by the time the Sea Dogs were comfortably in their hotel rooms in Harrisburg and it showed early in the game.

Portland scored a run in the second, three in the third and another in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Matt Chico went the first two plus innings allowing four of the runs before turning things over to Carlos Martinez.

The Senators offense came to life in the fifth inning when Joel Guzman and Bill Rhinehart homered back-to-back to draw the Sens to within 5-2. Matt Whitney doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sean Rooney to make the score 5-3 Portland. The Sens would get no closer.

Portland scored three runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Adam Mills earned the win for Portland, his seven straight win and sixth against no losses in July.

Whitney had two doubles for the Sens and was the only Harrisburg player with two hits.

The series continues on Saturday night with RH Jeff Mandel making his second start for Harrisburg against LH Felix Doubront for Portland. Game time Saturday night is 7:00pm.
