Davis Extends Hit Streak in B-Mets 16-3 Loss to Aeros

Ike Davis extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a double in the fifth, but the Binghamton Mets lost 16-3 to the Akron Aeros Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Matt McBride hit a pair of three-run homers for the Aeros and collected eight RBIs.

Akron struck first off Jake Ruckle in the first inning. Jose Constanza led off the game with a single and Jesus Merchan, who collected four hits, moved him up to second with a single of his own. Nick Weglarz then drove in Constanza with a single over the head of Ike Davis. Matt McBride finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly, which scored Merchan, making it 2-0.

Matt McBride's first three-run home run came off Ruckle in the third, making it 5-0. It was his ninth homer of the season and plated Merchan and Weglarz, who singled and walked before McBride's blast. In the fourth, Ruckle gave up another home run, this time a solo shot to Carlos Rivero, to lengthen the lead to 6-0.

Ruckle walked Weglarz and allowed a single to Carlos Santana before being pulled with one out in the fifth. He was pinned with his third loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits. Emary Frederick came on in relief but Weglarz scored on an error by shortstop Ruben Tejada, stretching it to 7-0.

Binghamton (40-64) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with three runs off Aeros starter Bobby Livingston. Jonathan Malo led off the frame with a single and Emmanuel Garcia reached on a fielding error by McBride. Jose Coronado then drove in Malo with a single. After Ruben Tejada grounded into a double play, Josh Thole doubled to plate Garcia. Davis capped the scoring by extending his hit streak to 15 games with a run-scoring double, pulling the B-Mets within four runs.

Akron (66-41) responded by scoring the game's last nine runs, with one in the sixth and seventh, three in the eighth and four in the ninth. McBride hit his second three-run home run of the game in the eighth off Edgar Alfonzo, making it 12-3. The 16 runs allowed tied a season-high for the B-Mets and Akron scored at least one run in eight of the nine innings.

Livingston won his second game with the Aeros this season, going six innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

Binghamton takes on Akron in game two of a three-game set tomorrow night. The B-Mets will toss RHP Dylan Owen (3-6, 5.24) and the Aeros will send LHP Ryan Edell (3-1, 2.48) to the mound. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
