Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tyler Lyons hurled seven shutout innings of two-hit ball as the Memphis Redbirds blanked the Round Rock Express, 5-0, in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
It was the league-leading 12th shutout for Memphis (51-56), which also matched the most in franchise history, previously established by the 2000 Championship squad. Three of the Redbirds' five wins over Round Rock have been shutouts.
With the win, Memphis took the final two games of the four-game series and remained tied with Iowa for first place in the PCL American Northern Division.
Lyons has gone 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA (6er/39.2ip) and 37 strikeouts in six starts since being optioned by St. Louis to Memphis on June 22.
Second baseman Kolten Wong went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Outfielder Chad Huffman added three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Memphis dropped a three-spot on Jake Brigham in the bottom of the fifth, beginning with one-out double from Tommy Pham. Wong followed with an RBI double up the middle with the Round Rock infield drawn in.
After a Huffman double to move Wong to third base, Romak hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Adron Chambers then knocked in RBI single to center.
Memphis extended its lead to 4-0 in the eighth as Wong worked a one-out walk. He came around to score on Huffman's second double of the evening.
Michael Blazek finished with two scoreless innings to end the night..
Brigham (4-2) tossed a quality start for Round Rock in the loss, scattering eight hits for three runs in six innings.
The Redbirds and Express travel to the Dell Diamond in Round Rock tomorrow to play another four-game set and wrap up their season series. Left-hander Nick Additon (6-6, 4.37) will start for Memphis and face Round Rock righty RHP Evan Meek (5-4, 3.65 ERA).
