Tucson Padres News Release
Franklin Gutierrez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs leading the Tacoma Rainiers to a 5-3 win over Tucson Padres Wednesday at Kino Stadium. Tucson owns a 2-5 record since the All-Star Break.
The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Brandon Allen's two-out RBI single. Gregorio Petit's RBI single in the third gave Tucson a two-run advantage. The Rainiers tied game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third on Gutierrez's sacrifice fly and a wild pitch that scored Abraham Almonte. Nate Tenbrink's tenth home run of the season in the fourth put Tacoma ahead, 3-2. Gutierrez picked up his second RBI of the game in the fifth with a single to score Almonte.
Cody Decker closed the gap to 4-3 in the sixth with a two-out RBI triple to left-center field. The Padres had a chance for more runs in the inning with runners on the corners, but Almonte made an over-the-shoulder catch in center field to rob Mike Wilson of an extra-base hit. Tacoma added an insurance run in the seventh when Gutierrez delivered an RBI single to left. Gutierrez was playing in his fifth game for the Rainiers as part of a rehab assignment from Seattle.
Brandon Maurer earned his third win of the season after allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight in 6.2 innings. Logan Bawcom converted his 18th save of the year. Anthony Bass was charged with his fourth loss after yielding four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
