Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Papillion, Neb. - In their final meeting of the season, the Omaha Storm Chasers outlasted the Oklahoma City RedHawks, 2-1, in 12 innings before 6,508 at Werner Park.
The game was tied 1-1 after the fifth inning and stayed that way until the 12th. Irving Falu drew a leadoff walk before he was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. RedHawks reliever Jason Stoffel then intentionally walked Anthony Seratelli and issued another walk to Ben Broussard to load the bases.
Max Ramirez hit a 1-1 offering from Stoffel (4-1) out to deep right field. Although George Springer made the catch, he had no shot to throw out the runner at home, as Falu scored the winning run on Ramirez's sacrifice fly.
The victory gave Omaha (50-56) its third walk-off of the series and the fourth of the season against the RedHawks. The teams split their 16 meetings in 2013, with seven decided by one run.
The winning run was the first for the Storm Chasers since the first inning. Omaha got on the board two batters into its first at bat when Christian Colon hit his second home run in as many days, putting the Storm Chasers in front, 1-0.
The RedHawks (56-50) were held to just one hit and had only two runners on base through the first four innings. On the first pitch of the fifth, Jimmy Paredes hit a homer to right field to tie the game.
Although the teams scattered hits thereafter, neither team put together a strong threat to score. In the eighth inning the RedHawks had none on with two outs before loading the bases, but Omaha reliever Will Smith struck out George Springer to keep the game tied.
The Storm Chasers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, but Stoffel got Quintin Berry to ground out and send the game to the 11th.
The RedHawks had the go-ahead run at second base with one out in the 11th and Springer and Brandon Laird due up. Francisely Bueno coaxed a fly out from Springer and a groundout from Laird to keep it tied.
Buddy Baumann (2-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless 12th.
Oklahoma City was limited to just six hits and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
RedHawks starting pitcher Jake Buchanan turned in another strong performance, lasting seven innings and keeping Omaha scoreless after the first. He allowed eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Buchanan also held the Storm Chasers 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
After going 5-4 on their road trip, the RedHawks will open a 12-game homestand Friday night against the Iowa Cubs at 7:05 p.m., with post-game fireworks presented by Country Financial. Tickets are available by calling (405) 218-1000, through okcredhawks.com, or at the RedHawks ticket office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive in Bricktown.
Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
