New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - Nick Green and Kyle Skipworth belted back to back solo home runs in the ninth inning but the New Orleans Zephyrs rally fell short as the Iowa Cubs held off the Z's 4-3 in front of 9,831 fans at Principal Park.

Iowa Cubs took advantage of two Zephyrs errors in the second inning to score three unearned runs. Duane Below allowed a two out walk to Mike Olt and then Jae-Hoon Ha reached on a Gil Velazquez fielding error. Below intentionally walked J.C. Boscan to face the Cubs pitcher. Jake Arrieta drilled a double off the wall in centerfield and the throw from Kevin Mattison sailed over the cut-off man for an error to empty the bases and score three runs.

The base-hit from Arrieta was his first of the season and the second hit of his career. Arrieta pitched six and two third innings allowing one run on four hits and earned his first win as an Iowa Cub. The 27-year-old was acquired in a recent trade from Baltimore.

Iowa added a run in the third inning to extend the lead to 4-0. The Z's scratched out a run in the fourth inning with a Green RBI on a ground-out.

The Zephyrs rallied in the ninth inning pounding back to back home runs for the first time this season.

Duane Below allowed four runs, one earned on three hits in six innings. He took the defeat for the Z's. New Orleans falls to 52-54 for the season and split the four game set with first place Iowa.
