Salt Lake City, Ut.--Salt Lake Bees (59-46) center fielder Kole Calhoun's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win over the Fresno Grizzlies (47-58) on Wednesday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

Missed opportunities were the theme again for Fresno, who three times had a runner at third with one out and could not score.

The Bees started the ninth inning rally against Grizzlies right-handed reliever Heath Hembree (1-3) on a triple to right field by designated hitter Drew Heid. Hembree struck out Bees shortstop Andrew Romine and right fielder Matt Long. However, Calhoun never let the count go to two strikes, as he jumped on the first pitch he saw from Hembree and ripped into right, which ended the game.

Calhoun, who homered three times on Tuesday, reached base safely five times tonight, and overall has reached base nine straight plate appearances, which is one shy of the current Salt Lake franchise record.

Fresno jumped on the board first, scoring twice in the first inning. Center fielder Gary Brown led off the game with a single and then scored when the next batter second baseman Nick Noonan doubled to right-center. Later in the inning, first baseman Brett Pill doubled home Noonan.

The Bees runs came on solo homers by Long (8) in the second inning and third baseman Chris Nelson (6) in the fourth. Salt Lake tied the game in the seventh inning on a single by Romine.

Wednesday night marked the Triple-A debut of left-hander Adalberto Mejia, who came up from Class A Advanced San Jose. Despite giving up the two homers, he worked five innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Salt Lake right-hander Matt Shoemaker pitched the first seven innings. He gave up seven hits and three runs (all earned). He walked one and struck out four. He gave up a homer to Fresno catcher Hector Sanchez (2), a solo clout, in the fourth.

Right-hander Jeremy Berg (4-0) worked 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout, which earned him the win.

Hembree gave up one run (earned) in 2/3 of an inning on two hits and had two strikeouts.

Fresno will try to avoid the four-game sweep on Thursday night at 6:05 PST in the regular season finale between these two teams. Left-hander Michael Kickham (3-6) will pitch for Fresno against Salt Lake right-hander Jarrett Grube (3-4).
