Redbirds Cannot Clinch Series in 5-1 Loss to New Orleans Memphis Still Looking for First Series Win of the Season MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds committed three errors in the fourth inning that led to the decisive runs in a 5-1 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs (Triple-A Marlins) Friday night at AutoZone Park.

With the loss in the series finale, which came after winning the first two games of the four-game set, Memphis (22-30) has now tied 10 series this season and lost the other four. New Orleans (23-30) added three more runs in the sixth to put away the Redbirds, who made a trio of errors in each of the last two defeats.

Alex Mejia, Patrick Wisdom and Tommy Pham all doubled for the Redbirds in the game, giving Memphis an extra-base hit in a season-best 26-straight games.

Mike Mayers, making his second Triple-A start of the season after being transferred from Springfield (AA) earlier this week, fanned seven but took the loss in 5.2 innings of work. He gave up four runs, two earned, on four hits and walked two. He has struck out 17 in his last two outings, including his most recent start in Springfield.

Mayers helped himself with a hit and a walk at the plate.

The Redbirds scored first Friday night, with Mejia coming around after his two-bagger on a groundout and a Charlie Tilson fielder's choice.

But the Redbirds could not capitalize after manufacturing that third-inning run and left a runner on in each of the next five innings, before going down 1-2-3 in the ninth.

In the series, Memphis was 2-for-30 with runners in scoring position and 0-for-13 in its two losses.

After a four-game series at Iowa (Triple-A Cubs), the Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park next week to host Colorado Springs (Triple-A Brewers) Thursday-Sunday.

The upcoming homestand features a Yadier Molina Garden Gnome Theme Ticket and replica Redbirds jersey gate giveaway, as well as postgame fireworks, on Saturday, plus College Night and an all-you-can-eat crawfish buffet on Thursday. On Friday, the Redbirds will be giving away a cooler backpack at the gate, and the homestand closes with Prairie Farms Ice Cream Sunday and a chance for kids to run the bases on Sunday.
