Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox erased an early seven-run deficit to come from behind and defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 13-9 on Thursday night at Security Service Field.

Five different Sky Sox recorded multi-hit games and seven scored at least one run to lead the Sky Sox to their fourth victory in a row. The win puts the Sky Sox just one game out of first place in the PCL American Northern Division.

Omaha struck early against Sky Sox starter Sam Freeman (0-0, 9.72). Six Storm Chasers hits from six different batters put six runs on the board in the top of the first for the visitors.

In the bottom half, the Sky Sox cut into the lead against Omaha starting pitcher Jonathan Dziedzic (1-5, 5.43). Yadiel Rivera doubled to start the frame and Orlando Arcia followed with a walk. After a double steal, Rivera scored on a ground out from Manny Pina to get the Sky Sox on the board. Andy Wilkins followed with a single to left to score Arcia and make the score 6-2 Omaha.

After retiring the side in order in the second, the Sky Sox pulled Freeman and brought in Ariel Pena from the bullpen. In two innings of work, Freeman allowed six earned runs on six hits while striking out one.

In the third, Travis Snider hit a three run home run off Pena to increase the Omaha lead to 9-2. The lead wouldn't last long.

The Sky Sox were again quick to respond. After Pena pitched a scoreless fourth, the Sky Sox got a couple runners on base for Will Middlebrooks. The Sky Sox third baseman delivered, driving his first triple of the season to center to score Pina and Josmil Pinto. Middlebrooks then scored on a Garin Cecchini ground out. Later in the inning, Michael Reed drew a two-out walk. The next batter, Jake Elmore, laced a double off the left field wall to score Reed and cut the Sky Sox deficit to just 9-6.

After Pena threw a scoreless fifth, the Sky Sox outdid themselves in the bottom half. Pina doubled in Arcia to score the first run. A few batters later, the Sky Sox loaded the bases for Cecchini. He reached on an error to score another run and keep the bases loaded. Reed and Elmore followed with walks to score the tying and go-ahead runs for the Sky Sox. The scoring was capped when a pair of runs scored on Arcia's fly ball that was misplayed by Omaha for another error.

Cecchini drove in another run in the sixth as his double to deep left field scored Middlebrooks all the way from first and increase the Sky Sox lead to 13-9.

In the seventh, the Sky Sox pulled Pena with two outs and turned to Drew Gagnon, who got out of the inning unscathed. In four and two thirds relief innings, Pena allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out three to earn his first victory of the season.

Gagnon then pitched a scoreless eighth and Damien Magnifico came in and finished off the game with a scoreless ninth.

The Sky Sox and Storm Chasers conclude their series with a 7:05 p.m. matchup tomorrow night at Security Service Field. Tim Dillard (3-0, 3.71) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Sky Sox.
