Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox led from start to finish to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 6-1 to finish off a four game sweep in front of 6,074 at Security Service Field on Friday night. The win puts the Sky Sox in a tie for first place in the PCL American Northern Division.

Making his first start of the season, Tim Dillard (4-0, 2.86) started off the game in fine form. In the first, he set down the Storm Chasers in order. In the second, he struck out a pair of batters and worked around a hit to keep the game scoreless. The offense gave Dillard a lead soon after.

Andy Wilkins led off the inning with a double to left off Omaha starter Christian Binford (1-2, 3.67). A few batters later with two outs, Will Middlebroks grounded a single between first and second to score Wilkins with the game's first run.

In the third, Dillard walked around a walk and got a couple fly outs to end the inning and keep the Sky Sox ahead.

The offense increased the lead in the bottom half as Eric Young Jr. slid under a tag at home plate on Manny Pina's sacrifice fly to give the Sky Sox their second run of the night. Later in the inning, two more runs scored when Andy Wilkins ground ball resulted in an error on Omaha second baseman Christian Colon to give the Sky Sox a 4-0 lead in the third.

Dillard recorded two strikeouts in the fourth and again the Sky Sox were able to extend the lead in the bottom half.

Middlebrooks led off the inning with a double, then advanced to third on a single from Michael Reed. Young Jr. then laid down a squeeze bunt to score Middlebrooks from third with the fifth Sky Sox run. Orlando Arcia capped the inning's scoring with a double to left field to score Reed and make it 6-0 Sky Sox after four.

Dillard go into trouble in the fifth as Christian Colon came to the plate with two runners on base and two outs. Colon laced a single to left, and Parker Morin charged around third trying to score. From left field, Young Jr. made a perfect one-hop throw to Josmil Pinto at the plate, and the Sky Sox catcher applied the tag to the sliding Morin to get Dillard through the frame unscathed.

In five scoreless innings, Dillard allowed just five singles and one walk while striking out five to earn his fourth win of the year.

For Omaha, Binford suffered the loss with six run against s, four earned, on seven hits while striking out three in six innings. The Sky Sox bullpen finished what Dillard started. Austin Ross pitched three perfect relief innings. Omaha scratched out a run off Michael Kirkman in the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Sky Sox finished off their fifth win in a row. The Sky Sox sweep at home is their first home sweep in a series of four or more games since July 2012.

The Sky Sox hit the road for an eight game road trip beginning tomorrow in New Orleans. Taylor Jungmann (1-2, 10.41) is scheduled to pitch for the Sky Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Zephyr Park.
