Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees fell 6-1 to the Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday night in Tim Lincecum's Angels organization debut. Lincecum, the two-time former Cy Young Award winner, struggled in the first inning allowing the first three batters to reach base on a single, double and walk. The Rainiers would go on to score two runs in the first on a balk, when Lincecum slipped on the wet mound, and a sacrifice fly. After allowing another run in the second, Lincecum retired eight consecutive batters and 11 of the final 13 batters he faced. Lincecum finished with five innings pitched, three hits, three runs, three walks and five strikeouts on 88 pitches.
Trailing 3-0 early, the Bees looked to get back into the game in the fourth, scoring a run on a Sherman Johnson sacrifice fly. The Bees then loaded the bases in the fifth with one out, but Rainiers starter Adrian Sampson (6-3) struck out Todd Cunningham and Kaleb Cowart to keep the Bees at bay. Cody Satterwhite would come on in relief of Lincecum in the sixth, throwing two scoreless innings. Former Rainier Lucas Luetge was touched up by his old team for three earned runs in the eighth inning to give the Tacoma some late insurance. The loss dropped the Bees to 26-26, giving them a .500 record for the first time this season.
The Bees and Rainiers will play the final game of the four-game series Friday night at 8:05 p.m. MT. Salt Lake will return home on Monday, June 13 to start an eight-game homestand. Tickets and additional information is available at www.slbees.com.
