Rochester Red Wings News Release
TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings begin their huge 11-game, 12-day road trip with the opener of a four-game series against the Durham Bulls on Monday night (7:05 p.m.) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC... The Wings begin the road trip with a two-game lead over Pawtucket in the IL North with just 27 games remaining in the regular season... Despite Sunday's 5-4 setback to Syracuse, Rochester is still 22-9 over their last 31 contests and 43-24 since May 27 -- the 2nd best mark in the IL over that span (DUR, 43-23)... Meanwhile, the Bulls begin the series with the best record in all of professional baseball and own a commanding 13.5 game lead over Norfolk in the IL South... Durham also owns the best home record in the IL at 41-18 (.695) -- including winning 13 of their last 19 at DBAP.
¨Other stops on the trip include 4 games in Norfolk (8/9-8/12) and 3 games in Buffalo (8/14-8/16) following an off day on 8/13.
WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...:
¨Will win their 5th straight series opener and 15th of the season (14-20 in series openers so far in '13)... The Wings have yet to lose a series this season when winning the lid-lifter (8-0-6).
¨Will win their 10th game in a row over an IL South opponent (4 vs NOR & 5 vs GWN) and their 14th victory in their last 15 games vs the South (lone loss in that span came @ GWN on 6/6)... The Wings are 17-7 against the IL South this season (16-16 vs SOU in '12).
¨Will return to a season-high 10 games over the .500 mark for the 3rd time this season.
DEAN DEBUTS: LHP Pat Dean will make his Red Wings and Triple-A debut on Monday night against the Durham Bulls... Dean was transferred to Rochester on Monday to make a spot start for the Wings after going 6-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 22 GS at New Britain... Dean, a 3rd round selection of the Twins in the 2010 draft out of Boston College, is in his 4th professional season and has accumulated a record of 23-28 with a 4.33 ERA in 79 G (75 GS).
¨Command: Dean is known for his command as he has walked just 17 in 125.0 IP this season (1.2 BB/9 IP) and for his career has averaged just 1.6 BB/9 IP... Earlier this season, Dean rattled off 31.2 IP without yielding a walk from 4/17-5/15 - a span of 5-plus GS
¨Red Wings All-Star LHP Andrew Albers was slated to start tonight but he was promoted to Minnesota on Saturday. LHP Scott Diamond, who was optioned down to Rochester on Thursday, will make his Red Wings season debut on Tuesday.
TOUGH TASK: The Red Wings begin their 16th all-time series at DBAP tonight still in search of their first-ever series win in Durham (0-8-7)... This year, the Wings run into a Bulls squad that leads the league in pitching (3.35 ERA) and hitting (.276). An IL team hasn't finished the year leading in both of those categories since 1988 (Tidewater) and only four teams have accomplished it in the last 50 years... The four scheduled starters for Durham in this series are a combined 33-14 with a 3.43 ERA in 67 G (65 GS) for the Bulls this season... As mentioned earlier, the Bulls 41-18 home record is the best in the IL.
WILLINGHAM JOINS WINGS ON REHAB: Minnesota Twins outfielder Josh Willingham joins the Red Wings on a Major League rehab assignment beginning tonight... Willingham was hitting .224 with 10 homers and 37 RBI in 70 games for the Twins this season before landing on the disabled list on July 2 with a meniscus tear in his left knee... The 10-year Major League veteran owns 177 career home runs and 581 RBI for four different MLB teams (Marlins, Nationals, A's & Twins)... Willingham is the 5th player to be assigned to the Red Wings on rehab this season (RHP Tim Wood, RHP Cole De Vries, OF Aaron Hicks and INF Trevor Plouffe).
HOT WINGS: Escobar Escobar (2-for-4; 3B, 2R, RBI, BB) now has a hit in 12 of his last 13 starts with ROC batting .327 (17-52) with 7 2B, 3B, 6 R and 10 RBI... HeÂfs done most of his damage at Frontier Field since being optioned on July 14, going 15-for-41 (.366) with 5 2B, 3B, all 7 runs scored and 6 RBI at home... Chris Parmelee (3-for-5; 2B, RBI, SO) extended his hit streak to 5 games with his 2nd, 3-hit game as a Red Wing on Sunday... HeÂfs now 9-for-20 (.450) with 3 2B, 2 RBI and 5 BB over his last 5 games to raise his average to .303 in his first 18 G with the Wings this season... Jeff Clement (2-for-5; 2 RBI, SO) recorded his 2nd straight multi-hit game Sunday after going 25 games without one (since June 27)... After his heroic night on Saturday, Clement now has 4 hits and 7 RBI over the last 2 days... Prior to Saturday, he had just four hits in his previous 10 games and 7 RBI over his last 13 contests... Eric Farris (DNP) has recorded a hit in 10 straight games started, batting .382 (13-for-34) with a 2B, 8 R and 5 RBI since 7/21... RHP A.J. Achter turned in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief behind Liam Hendriks Sunday as he has now allowed just one run on 3 hits in 8.1 IP (1.08 ERA) over his last 4 outings after allowing for 4 runs on 4 hits (2 HR) and 3 walks in his Triple-A debut on 7/7 vs PAW.
MORE ABOUT YESTERDAY...:

¨Wings pitching walked 5 batters and have now issued 14 walks in the last 2 games after allowing just 13 BB in previous 10 G.
