Rochester Red Wings News Release

Left-handed pitcher Pat Dean dazzled in his Triple-A debut Monday night as he spun seven scoreless innings in the Red Wings 4-2 win over the Durham Bulls in game one of their four-game series and 11-game road trip.

The Wings took a 4-0 into the 9th inning, but the Bulls made things interesting plating a pair of runs, before Shairon Martis stranded the bases loaded to lock down his team-leading 10th save of the season and preserve the Wings 4-2 win.

Rochester remains two games in front in the IL North as Pawtucket came from behind in the 8th inning to beat Buffalo Monday night to keep pace with the Red Wings.

Dean, promoted from Double-A New Britain on Monday to make the spot start, allowed just two hits and three walks while facing only four over the minimum. The southpaw took a no-hitter into the 6th inning before a leadoff bunt single by Kevin Kiermaier broke up the no-no.

The 24-year-old, who was just 6-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 22 starts at New Britain this season, didn't allow a Bulls base runner to reach third base and only twice did a runner reach as far as second against him.

Making his outing that much more impressive, the Twins 3rd round pick in 2010 blanked the IL's most potent offense. The Bulls entered the day with the IL's most runs and the league's best batting average.

The Wings offense took awhile to get going against Durham right-hander Matt Buschmann but finally provided some support for their starter in the late innings.

Rochester broke through in the 6th inning when Jeff Clement laced a single to center scoring Eduardo Escobar who walked to lead off the frame. Chris Parmelee, who had an apparent home run overturned to a double, was thrown out by Kiermaier trying to score from second.

Clement finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI - his first three-hit game since collecting four hits on June 7 at Gwinnett. The Wings first baseman, who was mired in a month-long slump, is now 7-for-15 with a home run, two doubles and eight RBI over the last three games.

The Red Wings played small ball to tack on a run in the 7th inning. After Josmil Pinto singled to lead off the inning, Ray Olmedo laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bulls catcher Jesus Flores tried to peg Pinto at 2nd but the Wings catcher beat the throw to the bag. Eric Farris followed with a perfect sac bunt moving both runners up a base before Escobar lifted a sacrifice fly to center that plated Pinto giving Rochester the 2-0 lead.

Rochester would add key insurance runs in the 8th on RBI hits from Deibinson Romero and Pinto that staked the Wings to a 4-0 advantage.

The Wings seek a second straight win on Tuesday when southpaw Scott Diamond makes his Red Wings season debut against Bulls right-hander J.D Martin who leads the league with 14 wins this season.

WINGS THINGS : OF Josh Willingham went 0-for-3 with a walk as the DH in his first rehab game with the Wings. The Twins outfielder had been sidelined with a meniscus tear in his left knee since July 2... Chris Parmelee extended his hit streak to 6 games going 2-for-3 with 2 doubles... The Wings won their 10th straight game over an IL South opponent and are now 18-7 against the South this season... The victory was the Red Wings 5th straight in a series opener. The Wings have not lost a series this season when winning the lid-lifter (8-0-6).
