Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Colton Sceviour notched two goals and goalie Jack Campbell stopped 25 shots to lead the Texas Stars to a 4-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons Wednesday night in front of 4,488 fans at Cedar Park Center. Texas won its fourth straight game and is now 4-0-1-0 in its last five games.
The Stars struck first when Colton Sceviour's fore-checking created a turnover in the Barons' zone and Sceviour sniped a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net. The rest of the period was a stalemate, with goalie Jack Campbell standing strong in net, turning away all 11 shots he faced.
After a scoreless second period that saw Texas dominate in shots 17-9, Brett Ritchie netted his first goal of the year 1:29 into the third, streaking down the left side and firing a backhander that beat goalie Richard Bachman through the pads and gave the Stars a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later, Sceviour added an insurance goal taking a quick pass from behind the net, courtesy of Curtis McKenzie, and firing a low wrister past Bachman. Travis Morin also earned an assist on the goal, extending his point streak to 14 consecutive regular season games. Oklahoma City got on the board at the 9:13 mark when a quick shot from Matthew Ford found its way past Campbell. Trailing by two goals with just over two minutes remaining, the Barons pulled Bachman for an extra attacker. The move would backfire as Morin sealed the deal with an empty net goal with 28 seconds left to close a 4-1 Stars victory.
Jack Campbell made 25 saves on 26 shots to earn his second victory of the season in goal for Texas. Richard Bachman got the loss for Oklahoma City as he allowed four goals on 39 shots. The Stars out-shot the Barons 39-26 in the game and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Barons were also 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
Texas now leaves the friendly confines of Cedar Park Center for its longest road trip of the season, a five-game, 10-day journey through the Midwest. The Stars will next face the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. at BMO Harris Bradley Center. Texas will return home on Friday, November 8th for the beginning of Stars & Stripes Military Appreciation Weekend presented by Sport Clips, facing Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
