October 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Adirondack Phantoms have received Kris Newbury (C) via loan from the Philadelphia Flyers, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. Newbury will be eligible to play for the Phantoms' next game on Friday night against the Norfolk Admirals. He will wear jersey #11 with Adirondack.

Newbury was with the Phantoms at the beginning of the Phantoms' training camp and played in two preseason games with the team but was called up to Philadelphia before Adirondack's season began. Newbury has played in three games with the Flyers this year including the team's most recent game on Thursday, October 17 against Pittsburgh. He has one assist and seven penalty minutes this year including a five-minute fighting major last week against Robert Bortuzzo of the Penguins.

Kris Newbury, 31, has spent the past couple of seasons with the New York Rangers organization. He has now played in 75 career NHL games but it's his AHL statistics that will really catch your eye; 599 games, 142 goals, 297 assists, 439 points. Newbury is one of only two players to have racked up 60 or more points in the AHL in each of the last three seasons. He was originally acquired by the Flyers organization this past off-season in exchange for Danny Syvret (D).

The Phantoms are back at the Glens Falls Civic Center this Friday night against Norfolk, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. Saturday they hit the road to play at Binghamton. And then the Phantoms return home next week for three games in four days on October 30, November 1 and November 2. 25 Terrific Seasons

Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of only 12 other cities who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979 who won four Calder Cups in their 20-year run at the GFCC. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-2010 and are beginning their fifth season.
