Morin's Late Goal Lifts Rockford over Toronto
October 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Toronto, Ont.- Two goal leads in Rockford IceHogs games are becoming a bit of an issue. For the third straight game and for the fourth time in eight contests this season, a team blew a two goal advantage, this time it was the Toronto Marlies in a 3-2 Rockford win at the Ricoh Coliseum.
The win for Rockford completes a stretch of seven of their first eight games on the road and the IceHogs went 4-2-1-0 in those seven outings. Beginning Saturday, Rockford will play eight of their next 11 at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Toronto struck first on Wednesday with a goal in transition. Spencer Abbott spotted Greg McKegg on the left wing and the forward beat Antti Raanta at 4:18 of the first period for his second goal of the season.
The IceHogs deficit grew to 2-0 in the second period. Carter Ashton cleaned up an Abbott rebound in front of Raanta at 8:23 for his second lamp lighter on the campaign.
After killing off a Marlies power play, Rockford gained some momentum and made it 2-1. Adam Clendening led a 3-on-1 break for the IceHogs and the d-man set Alex Broadhurst up for his second goal of the season at 14:33.
Terry Broadhurst would then tie the game at 2-2. Klas Dahlbeck's pass from the Rockford zone sailed past the Toronto defense, but Garret Ross caught up to it first to prevent an icing and fed Broadhurst streaking to the net and the winger buried his third goal of the season at 17:31.
In the third period, Rockford had an offensive face off and took advantage. Byron Froese won the draw to Jeremy Morin and the winger snapped home his fourth goal of the season past Drew MacIntyre for the eventual game winner at 14:33.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Oct. 26 vs. Charlotte Checkers at 3 p.m. The first 5,000 fans to the BMO will receive a 2013-14 IceHogs magnet schedule compliments of T6 Broadband. Fans are also invited to come dressed for Halloween as the IceHogs will be hosting a Trick-or-Treat version of "Skate with the Hogs" following the game.
